Rules, made by fools
So what do I have to do?
Registration
Before or after you register your details, and you have pays your ONE ENGLISH POUND to an authorised agent or one of the unauthorised organisers, then they will press a button on the random-O-tronic device®.This mythical, magical device will look deep into your heart and assign a random number to you and only you. The number will correspond to one of the unique combinations of four football teams, there are over 359 permutations so don't be shy and have as many goes as you like, we won't tell your family/friend/bankruptcy creditors.
When is the closing date?
Well, as it's a bonkers sweepstake, you can join after the tournament starts, and even after the group stages are finished. This year, we're calling time just before the quarter-finals start, if there are any places left by then. The ultimate combination might not have been sold yet, who knows? If you feel you've got a duff set, don't forget you can buy buy buy more.Sigh, oh yeah, ignore all that goading.. gambol responsibly... no, I mean the other one, gamble responsibly.
So what teams do I get?
UEFA assigned each team to one of four pots based on their performance in the qualifying for the tournament. Each punter gets FOUR teams, one from each of the pots. Each team is in tier 1, 2, 3 or 4 based on which pot they were in. See the Bonkers Tier grade on the Teams page for the teams you can get assigned.
More details here: Wikipedia: 2024 UEFA Euro 2024 Draw
Now here comes the science, the random-O-tronic device® takes one team from each tier after checking that they are not from the same group. That way you get a nice balance* and no-one gets a bad combination*.

How do I score points?
Scoring points - Group
In the group stages, every point your team scores is added to your total:
- Win a game
- 3 points.
- Draw a game
- 1 points.
- Lose a game
- 0 points. <sad trombone>
- Win the group
- 2 bonus points.
Scoring points - Knockout
After the group stages, you get the same points for wins and draws, but you also get bonus points based on how far your teams go:
- Reach the Semi-Final
- 5 points.
- Finalist - runner-up
- 7 points.
- Tournament winner
- 10 points.
These points are cumulative, so for example, if you have a team that wins 2 games in the group (6), finishes top of the group (2), wins their round of 16 match (3) wins the quarter final match (3) to reach the semis (5) and goes out in the semi final, your points for that team will be:
6 + 2 + 3 + 3 + 5 = 19
Extra Time - Knockout
If a game goes to extra time, any goals scored go towards your goal difference,
including goals scored in a penalty shootout. [shootout goals don't count for goal difference, these rules are 10 years out of date, naturally]
How is the money divvied up?
Prize Pot
All entry money is paid out as prizes. Every pound in, goes out, after resting in my account, Father Ted style.
The top 10% of players will receive a prize, but if that's more than 10 people, just the lucky top 10. So if we have 50 players then there will be 5 prize winners, plus a booby prize for last place.
The Leaderboard will have a dynamically calculated payout for each player in a prize winning position. If two or more players are tied, the prizes will be added together and divided by the number of players tied.
Prize Structure
As it's Bonkers, it will be extremely clever and cunning and one day I will understand it, but here goes.
- 1st Prize
- 40% of the total pot.
- 2nd Prize
- 25% of what's left after 1st prize is taken out.
- 3rd Prize
- 25% of what's left after that.
- 4th Prize and the rest of the paid places
- 15% of the remainder each time.
- Last Place
- What's left, won't be coppers, honest!
Prizes are rounded down to the nearest 50p for our sanity, last place still gets the full remainder (split in the case of a tie for last). Until there are a decent amount of people on the leaderboard, it's the wild west, expect strange prize calculations in the early stages.
